Angel Freeman March 24, 2011 Concert Review #1 Music History The bootleg History Month Recital was a great success. Dr. M did a tremendous employment putting the program together and the students did a great air performing. I think that the project choir did a great tremendous job especi entirelyy with Elijah Rock by Moses Hogan. Moses George Hogan was an African American composer and arranger of chorale music. He was lift out known for his very favourite and friendly settings of spirituals during the time he was composing. Hogan was a pianist, conductor and arranger of global renown. His works atomic number 18 exaltedly celebrated and performed by high school, college, church, community, and professional choirs across the globe today. He died at the time of forty-five of a brain tumor, and his survivors include his father and mother, a brother and four sisters. His interment was located at hatful Olivet Cemetery and Mausoleum. The ASU Men Chorale did a wonderful job and their diction was great. The Men Chorale sang devil pieces and two pieces reminded me of great old time folk tales sang by slaves. Adrian Watts and Jacqulynn Taylor recited poems. Aint I a Women, by Sojorner honor stood out the most to me because women had the hardest times gaining rights.

The ASU Jazz Combo performed two pieces When you Believe by Stephen Schwartz vocals featuring Kendra Jenkins and Take The A Train by Billy Strayhorn, both composers famous for notable pieces that people love. When you call up is and always will be a great piece. That form has been played in many movies and its a popular song for pageants. Overall I think that all the participants did a great job, all the composers were well represented by the performers, who did their best to make black spirituals and folk tales but the best of all kind. I enjoyed all the singing, poems, and piano solos; everyone did a great job sharing their talent. I believe that the professors at Alcorn State University are doing a great job...
