Robert Maplethorpe was an the States photographer best known for his large scale macabre and white photos of flowers and nude men. Maplethorpe attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where he majored in graphic arts, but dropped out in 1969 in the beginning finishing his degree. He lived with is partner Patti Smith who supported him by working in book stores. She created art with him and even later on he realized he was gay they maintained a close relationship. He acquired a Polaroid camera in 1970 which he used to kick off his professional career. At almost 1974 he got a Hasselblad medium-format camera, which he used to take depicting photographs of his large inner circle of friends and acquaintances, including artist, composers, and socialites.
