Since the Beginnings of reggae in the 1960s, Jamaicas reggae has evolved and transformed tremendously into numerous types of tuneful genres. From Roots reggae to Dub, to the Rockers reggae and lovers rock, reggae has grown and influenced many styles of popular melody. immediately however reggae has taken on yet again a different form creating a unique sound that non only holds on to traditional reggae grow, but also reflects raw times. Dancehall is this exactly, a new style of music laced with the roots of reggae that is exploding with popularity, controversy, and excitement!
Although often referred to as the new sound of Jamaica, Dancehall began its culture almost forty years ago. Prior to the Jamaican independence much of Jamaica was segregated among class and social background. During this time of sequestration the local anesthetic Jamaicans who mostly resided in Kingston were not allowed to enter in organized dances and concerts that took place uptown. As a sequel of this the local Jamaican population gathered in dance halls where they preformed their own musical shows. After Jamaica gained its independence in 1962 the wad of the island who were creating music complimentsed to stay true to the sounds that were being comprehend within the dance halls.
Over the next decade local musicians developed a unique style of music that bodily the spirit of dance halls. The music of the island that once revolved most social injustice, repatriation and the Rastafarian movement was now taken on themes of dancing, humor, violence and sexuality.
Two major key figures to the growth of dancehall music are Winston Foster AKA Yellow Man , and Ripton Joseph Hylton AKA Eek-A-Mouse, both of whom gained eminence and fame during the 1980s.
