The direct meaning of the phrase turn the other cheek is to resist them nonviolently. The exact opposite of what the believers are using the verse for in their favor. The same believers say it is not a sin to kill under the death penalty because the ten commandments say thou shall not kill the presume it means unlawfully murder, so, because the death penalty is not prohibited in the states that use it, they are not committing a sin against the Lord.
Another view of the believers in the death penalty is that it is honorable right, plain and simple, this person took a life and so shall theirs be taken.
