Anatomy of the Kidneys-The pattern kidney location is towards the back of the abdominal cavity, just above the waist. If you perpetrate your hands on your hips, your kidneys are find just virtually where your thumbs are. One kidney is normally located just below the liver, on the right side of the abdomen. The other kidney is just below the irascibility on the left side. There are rare cases, in which one or both kidneys may be located much lower in the abdomen.
Physiology of the Kidneys- The kidneys function are to drip the blood. All the blood in our bodies passes through the kidneys several multiplication a day. The kidneys remove wastes, control the bodys fluid relaxation, and regulate the balance of electrolytes. As the kidneys filter blood, they create urine, which collects in the kidneys pelvis. The kidneys pelvis is a funnel-shaped structure that drains down tubes called ureters to the bladder. (Resource: http://www.webmd.com/urinary-incontinence-oab/picture-of-the-kidneys)
Pathophysiology of Acute Renal Failure-
Acute Renal Failure (ARF) is characterized by 4 phases:
Onset form this period represents the time from the onset of injury through the prison cell death period.
This phase can last from hours to days and is characterized by renal flow at 25% of normal, oxygenation to the tissue at 25% of normal, urine output at 30 ml or less/hour, urine sodium excretion great than 40 mEq/L.
In this phase only 50% of the patients are noted to be oliguric. With prompt treatment, irreversible violate can be achieved during this pre renal failure onset phase.
Oliguric/ anuric Phase this phase usually lasts between 8-14 days and is characterized by further damage to the renal tubular wall and membranes. separate characteristics in the oliguric-anuric phase include:
Great reduction in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR)
Electrolyte abnormalities (hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia and hypocalcemia)
